5 Signs You’ve Outgrown Your IT Services

When a business starts as a sole proprietorship or with just a few partners in the office, it may work to have your nephew who’s getting his MS in Information Technology create your network. As your company grows, a “call when needed” firm may provide enough 9-5 weekday help services for you to get by. But once your business hits 10, 20, 30, 40 computers, you enter into a new phase in your IT needs. Here are 5 signs that you need something more:

1.- You’re worried about security. Maybe you’ve already had a lapse (and a close call) where the wrong customer received or accessed the wrong data. Your computer support firm doesn’t offer comprehensive security services, and you’re not even sure where the data holes in your system might be hiding.

2.- You’ve had weekend outages – maybe access to your website was down, or a client couldn’t access a critical piece of data. Your Monday-Friday, 9-5 support firm wasn’t available, and wasn’t monitoring your systems, so you were not even aware of the problem until you came back into the office on Monday.

3.- You’ve lost data. Maybe just a few files, or maybe a more serious loss. A computer went down, and it hadn’t been backed up. Or you thought it was being backed up but the back up system failed. In either case, you lost time and money recreating your firm’s work.

4.- You are running older computers that are a few updates behind on their operating system. You’re afraid of losing your current data if you update to the latest OS, but you know you need to upgrade in order to run your software more efficiently. The uncertainty has kept you stuck and your staff have created time-consuming workarounds to get basic things done. In other words, the tail is wagging the dog as far as your corporate technology is concerned.

5.- Your know that your company is too big for the occasional house call and 9-5 support, but too small to justify hiring staff IT support. Or maybe you hired your nephew (you know, the one who built your network) part-time while he was in school, but now he’s moving on.

If you are facing even one or two of these issues, it’s time to look for a full-service, 24/7 IT services company.
